It’s difficult to describe to trip to anyone who hasn’t been on it themselves. Even photos don’'t do it justice. But I try. Highway 93, or the Icefield Parkway as it’s known is one of the worlds most scenic drives. There is very little in the way of development, save for the 2 stops you can make at Saskatchewan Crossing or the Columbia Icefields visitor center. What is plentiful is a bounty of photo opportunities. It is all simply breathtaking with each corner rounded giving you a more incredible view.
During the day, the scenery in and around Jasper is remarkable.

Each year for the past 2 years Jasper has hosted a Dark Sky Festival (link). We have attended both times and have every intention to go this year. Especially since Cmdr Chris Hadfield is the keynote for the event. Far away from the effects of industry and city lights, Jasper is one of the worlds designated dark skies. Whenever we go, we throw bedtimes out for our 6 year old son and just go out an marvel at the sky. It was last year when he spotted his first shooting star, and promptly wished for a ‘big bowl of strawberries’.
